2024 Summer Camp – Manning Park
This year’s Summer Camp was a drive-in camp to Manning Park. Two one-week-long camps were held from July 28 to Aug 4, and Aug 4 to Aug 11, 2024.
Location: Lone Duck 1 Group Camp Ground, E.C. Manning Park
Overlooking Lightning Lake’s Lone Duck Bay about 4km off Highway 3 on Gibson Pass Road, this lovely treed campground has been developed over the last few years. It now boasts flush toilets, and a rebuilt shelter. E.C. Manning Provincial Park is east of Hope along Highway 3. It is an approximate three hour drive (depending on traffic) from Vancouver. Some stayed at Manning Park Resort, an approximately eight minute drive to camp.
Manning Park offers easy to difficult trails of varying distances within a short distance from camp. Many of these trails start at the camp site. The lovely Lightening Lake provides a swimming opportunity and showers are available free within a short walk or at the pool (located at the Manning Park Resort) for a nominal cost.
Species lists are available as Google Doc Manning Camp 2024 Species Lists. The lists include 64 species of birds, 74 plants (including fungi which are not really plants), 34 insects, 10 other animals.
144 of those sightings (80 species) submitted via iNaturalist (143 with photos) are available as project nature-vancouver-camp-2024-manning-park .
A detailed report of the camp was published in 2024-2025 issue of Discovery and is available from Summer Camp 2024.
