Summer Camp – Big Bar Ranch

Summer Camp – Big Bar Ranch

UPDATE: Jan 2022 The Camp Committee is very sad and disappointed but, because of the uncertainty around Covid, has decided to postpone the summer camp at Big Bar to 2023.  The traditional summer camp, with 45 people in each week, requires long-range planning and decision-making and it is difficult to make operational changes at short notice. For 2023, Camp 1 is scheduled for July 9-16 and Camp 2 for July 16-23 (July 2-9 is unavailable).  Elly is contacting people who…

NV Camp Committee – Request for Volunteers

NV Camp Committee – Request for Volunteers

The Nature Vancouver camp committee works hard to organize Summer Camps. If NV camps are going to be offered each summer we need help to keep things moving forward. We need more members to serve on the Camp Committee. We also need members to take on specific roles which do not require attending meetings, or rarely attending meetings. 2017 Summer Camp – Driftwood Lodge, Smithers

Photo Album – Elena Klein Photo Album – Wolfgang Hauser Photo Album – Daryl Sturdy Camp Report and Photos by Liz Dohan Driftwood Lodge in Smithers was a magnificent setting for Nature Vancouver’s drive in camp. Due to forest fires in the province, and closures along Highway 97, most of us made the trek in our vehicles along the Yellowhead Highway, adding perhaps an hour or two to the approximately 1200 kilometer trip. Gabi and Norbert Gust, the young couple…

In 2015, two camps were held from August 2 to 9 and from August 9 to 1, 2015. The camp site was located next to a pristine alpine lake near Mount Renshaw, just to the northeast of McBride. The location, which connects with the National Hiking Trail, featured spectacular alpine meadows and terrain suitable for rambling ridge walks and circumnavigation of Mount Renshaw on the NHT. Located at an altitude of 1890 m (6200 ft), the area had great botanizing, birding…
