New Brighton Restoration – Update

November 2023 Work Parties

Despite weather forecasts of continuous rain for the weekend of November 4th and 5th we had excellent New Brighton work parties under a mixture of glorious sun and some cloud and no rain for both work days. This means we have had 71 New Brighton work parties, most through the winter months without any significant precipitation.

We got a lot done but still have several hundred native perennials left to plant.

Next New Brighton Work Parties are scheduled for – Wednesday, November 15th; Thursday, November 16th & Saturday, November 18th  from Noon – 2 pm.

On Wednesday and Thursday (November 15th and 16th) we plan to focus on smaller 4″ sized potted perennial planting  on the East side of the hillock. Work will involve some energetic hand mattock and trowel work but should be enjoyable for most folks.  Saturday, November 18th will be more of the same planting as necessary, with more energetic pickaxing of patches of Reed Canary Grass available for those wishing a rousing workout. We are hoping to get a lot accomplished Wednesday and Thursday which will set us up for Saturday.

Please email Nigel to RSVP for any or all of the days if you can help so that he can make sure there are enough tools and treats.  nigel@naturevancouver.ca
