Field Trip Report by Colin Clasen Saturday October 13, 2018. Blakeburn Lagoons Park, Port Coquitlam. Leader Larry Cowan. This was Nature Vancouver’s first birding field trip to this new park, which opened on April 28, 2018. There was a total of 18 participants who enjoyed the mild weather conditions with mostly blue sky and no wind. Birding Field Trip -13th Oct 2018 Report by Leader Thomas Plath Under sunny skies and with little wind, a dozen participants reveled at the sight of thousands of shorebirds congregating on the mudflats off the foot of 104thStreet. The tide had pushed the flocks within 100 metres of the dyke and the “high tide” was low enough that the birds were going to stick. No Peregrines to scare them off to boot. The entrance pond hosted 300+ Long-billed Dowitchers, all milling about talking to each other and of course on the look for avian threats.
