Summer EcoWALK – A Walk on the Shady Side
Guided walk in the South area of Pacific Spirit Regional Park located north of SW Marine Drive and east of Wesbrook Boulevard in the vicinity of Ecological Reserve No. 74. We’ll concentrate on looking at the multitude of shade plants carpeting the moist ground under a forest canopy that includes moist-soil-loving sitka spruce. We’ll hear and try to see summer migrants such as Swainson’s thrush, Pacific-slope flycatchers etc. At the end of the walk, there will be an optional opportunity to view one of the 2 eagle nests located in this area via a spotting scope.
This walk is meant for beginner botanists & birders as well as those more experienced. We’ll make use of smart phone apps to help us ID the plants (e.g. iNaturalist) and birds (Merlin Bird ID App).
Please register for this walk using this Registration Form: The meeting place for the EcoWALK will be at the East side of the Triumph parking lot HERE.
For those driving here, Triumph has kindly given us permission to use their private parking lot for free (you’ll need to have the parking pass that we’ll pass out). After sign-in, we’ll discuss our route – but the idea is to walk along Sword Fern trail etc. in this area and enjoy the shady forest with its carpet of delicate shade plants and calls of summer migrant birds (among others).
