Foodlands Corridor Restoration Program
The Rivershed Society of BC is collaborating with First Nations and agricultural landholders to restore portions of private land adjacent to waterways within the Fraser Watershed. Foodlands Corridors are created by restoring and connecting adjacent parcels of privately held land to form a natural corridor. The term Foodlands acknowledges a diversity of food harvesting systems, both from a western farming and traditional hunting and gathering perspective. A restored Foodlands Corridor supports a food system that is healthy, sustainable, just, and inclusive.

Lara Volgyesi is a landscape architect with more than 20 years of experience in place-making through collaborative and sustainable design. Recently, Lara worked with ranchers on the traditional, unceded territory of Tŝilhqot’in Nation to help realize a vision of reconnecting people to where their food comes from. This transformative experience led her to apply her knowledge, skills, and passion toward creating sustainable, just, and inclusive food systems, addressing reconciliation and making reparations in trusted and meaningful ways, and helping restore multiple connections through the development and implementation of foodlands corridors in BC.
Emily Pearson is Stellat’en and grew up in her traditional territory, Dakelh Keyah, which is located in the Nechako region of the Lhta Koh (Fraser River) watershed. She moved to Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories in 2016 to pursue her post-secondary studies at UBC. Now with a BSc in Biology, Emily is working at the Rivershed Society of BC and is enthusiastic about her role in coordinating the Foodlands Corridor Restoration Program and contributing towards the goal of connecting, protecting, and restoring the watershed.
