Diez Vistas hike
May 30, 2022 9:00 to 5:00 pm
Time to take advantage of the great trails in the Buntzen area before massive crowds and parking restrictions arrive. Diez Vistas is a long (6-7.5 hrs) hike with some strenuous sections. There are no longer 10 views but those that remain are nice. Return time reflects addition of snack and lunch breaks.
Recent trail closures affect this route so, keep that in mind when reading online descriptions. Trail begins with an easy warmup before moving into a steep climb followed by undulating trails. A steep descent leads us on to the Lakeview trail. Expect roots, mud and slippery sections.
Notice from BC Hydro’s site:
Trail closures: rockslide
Following a rockslide, there’s no pedestrian access on Powerhouse Road between North Beach and Buntzen Dam. Hikers completing the Diez Vistas trail should use the Old Buntzen Lake trail to access either Lakeview trail or the west side of Buntzen Lake trail to get back to South Beach and the main parking lot. Swan Falls trail is also inaccessible to hikers at this time.
