🌿Killarney Lake Circuit Hike – Bowen Island B-4
🌿 Killarney Lake Circuit Hike – Bowen Island B-4
Starting from Snug Cove we will hike around Killarney Lake on Bowen Island. The trail is approximately 8km total with an elevation gain of about 180m and is a shady, temperate rain forest trail with views of the lake and its marshy shoreline. There are a few narrower, steep, rugged sections and a boardwalk section across the marsh. The walk will have something for most NV hikers – botany. birds, forest bathing., use of iNaturalist and Merlin ID apps etc.
Day hiking shoes/boots recommended. Bring lunch and water and appropriate clothing for any weather conditions.
Approximate time allowing for lunch and stops is 4 hours.
Leaders: Caroline Penn assisted by Pavel Ryzlovsky.
Travel Suggestions: For those not familiar with Bowen Island this trip will require a short ferry trip (20 minutes) from Horseshoe Bay to Bowen Island. You pay only one way:
Return Ferry costs: $10.45 (>12yrs old), $5.25 (<12yrs), Experience Card discount rates ($4.10 & $2.10) available on this route, free for Seniors (with BC ID).
For those who do not wish to drive and park at Horseshoe Bay there is a Horseshoe Bay Express Bus #257 from Vancouver downtown (Dunsmuir and Cambie Stop # 59558)) to Horseshoe Bay that takes 37 minutes.
I would suggest the 8 AM bus that arrives at Horseshoe Bay at 8:37 AM
The optimal ferry for this trip leaves Horseshoe Bay at 9:05 AM and arrives at Snug Cove at 9:25AM.
There is also a Horseshoe Bay #250 bus that takes 51 minutes with stops along Marine Drive. If you catch the 7:30 AM from Georgia and Richards (Stop # 60577) you will get to Horseshoe Bay at 8:21AM
Return ferry likely be the 4pm from Snug Cove arriving in Horseshoe Bay at 4:20 PM.
Please check all connection details as transit can change schedules and stop sites.
