Hike along Capilano-Pacific Trail, West Vancouver
Join Naomi Ross on Sunday January 21, for a mid-winter exploration of Capilano-Pacific Trail. This is a beautiful collection of trails with at least three viewpoints over the dramatic Capilano River Canyon. The trails are lined with Western redcedar, Western hemlock, Douglas Fir and nurse-logs of all ages and sizes. Just outside the hatchery, there are multiple dead trees where will likely see Pileated Woodpeckers at work. We will keep our eyes open for American Dippers, American Robins and Varied Thrushes.
There will be a lunch stop at Cleveland Dam if it is not raining, or the pavilion at the hatcheries if it is raining. There will be time to visit the hatcheries. Although there is not much live action at this time of year, the displays are fascinating.
Most of the trails are wide and undulating, but there are a few steep sections with rocks, roots and lots of steps, so please ensure that you are fit enough to do these strenuous areas. In particular, we are doing an exploratory hike along Ryan and Hugh’s Path, some of which can be considered challenging.
The total elevation gain is 268 metres and is about 7 km.
We are meeting at 10:15 for a 10:30 start and should be back in the parking area by 15:00.
Pre-registration is required. Please contact Naomi at naomixross@hotmail.com
