Hike Along Capilano-Pacific Trail
Join Naomi Ross for an early summer exploration of Capilano-Pacific Trail. This is a beautiful collection of trails with at least three viewpoints over the dramatic Capilano River Canyon. The trails are lined with Western redcedar, Western hemlock, Douglas Fir and nurse-logs of all ages and sizes. The Coho adults should be back, and if we are lucky, we will see eagles hunting. Just outside the hatchery, there are multiple dead trees where we will likely see Pileated Woodpeckers at work. We will keep our eyes open for American Dippers, American Robins and Varied thrushes. There will be a lunch stop at Cleveland Dam, if it is not raining, or at the pavilion at the hatcheries if it is raining. There will be time to visit the hatcheries.
Although most of the trails are wide and undulating, there are a few steep sections with rocks, roots and lots of steps, so please ensure that you are fit enough to do these strenuous areas. In particular, we are doing an exploratory hike along Ryan and Hugh’s Path, some of which can be considered challenging. The total elevation gain is 268 metres and the hike is about 7 km. We are meeting at 10:15 am for a 10:30 am start and should be back in the parking area by 3 pm.
Pre-registration is required. Please contact Naomi at naomixross@hotmail.com.
