An Urban Forest EcoWalk – Pacific Spirit Regional Park
Participate in a long exploration of the northern region of the Pacific Spirit Regional Park. This First Sunday EcoWalk is offered jointly by Pacific Spirit Park Society (PSPS) and Nature Vancouver. Free with donations to PSPS greatly appreciated (but not expected). Pacific Spirit Park is one of the largest parks in Metro Vancouver (almost twice the size of Stanley Park). Join Ian Clague and other volunteers with PSPS, in this 3-4 hr. walk exploring areas of extensive (second growth) coniferous forest and areas where deciduous trees and many native fruit-producing shrubs dominate. As well, observe the effects of ongoing beaver activity at the Beaver Pond, and check Spanish Banks creek for returning salmon. The walk will pass by a number of restored areas where volunteers with PSPS have removed invasive species, and planted native trees and shrubs to improve forest biodiversity.
The walk will be on graveled forest trails, with some moderate elevation change on trails near the ocean. Be sure to bring snacks, lunch (if desired) and water. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy-soled footwear. Meet at Park Centre on 4915 W 16th Ave ( SEE MAP). Walk will return to the starting point.
