A Vancouver Island Big Year
In 2015, Ann Nightingale of Rocky Point Bird Observatory dedicated a full year to explore Vancouver Island, trying to see as many species of birds as she could, from January 1st to December 31st. Join Ann for photos and stories about her adventures and discoveries.
Ann has been birding for about 25 years and has been an active volunteer for Rocky Point Bird Observatory for almost as long. As well as being a licensed bird bander, Ann is a past-president of both RPBO and the Victoria Natural History Society, and served a four-year term on the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network Steering Committee and a three-year term on the board of the American Birding Association. She also coordinates the Victoria Christmas Bird Count and is an area leader for the Sidney/South Salt Spring, Duncan, and Sooke Christmas Bird Counts. She is dedicated to the understanding, conservation and promotion of birds and has received several awards for her efforts: The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers; The American Birding Association’s Betty Pedersen Award for Conservation and Community; The Victoria Natural History Society’s Distinguished Service and Lifetime Membership Awards, and BC Nature’s Regional Award.
On the Monday preceding the event, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the weekly e-News. The talk will begin at 7:30 pm. Non-members are welcome and should Email denis@NatureVancouver.ca well in advance to register for the link.
