🌿 Mushrooming for Beginners – a late season exploration

This trip has been split in two, and has room for a few more participants.

Hike Location:  Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve in North Vancouver

NV Trip Rating: B4
Trip Leaders: Anne Leathem & Teresa Gagné
Meeting Point:: supplied after registration

In this leisurely foray though mixed conifer forest, we’ll see what fungus varieties are still fruiting.  Participants will learn how to use physical features (size, shape colour, texture); spore dispersal characteristics (gills, pores, tubes, teeth); and habitat information to distinguish some of the mushroom groups and species common to our area.  Bring a hand lens or magnifying glass if you have one.

This will be an easy outing, suitable for all fitness levels, but participants will need proper footwear and clothing suitable for cool, wet weather.  Some exploration will be off-trail.  Although it probably won’t cover a lot of ground, this field trip will extend over several hours, so be sure to bring lunch or at least a snack, as well as water.  Masks are required as group members will be stopping to look and learn and maintaining a 2m distance may not always be possible.

Preregistration required – please email:  <botany@NatureVancouver.ca> .  7 spaces available – NV members only.  Please read NV Covid policy and Please download the  Release of Liability form and Covid-19 Declaration, both to be signed by each participant.
