Caroline Penn (whose photos have been featured in our weekly eNews) will present her photographs from a trip in June 2019.

Gran Paradiso Park, was Italy’s first National Park, created in 1922 in the Northwestern corner of Italy, close to Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. It was the private hunting ground of King Victor Emmanuel II, who made it his Royal Reserve in 1856 in order to protect the waning ibex population. In 1920 his son donated the 710 acres which in 1922 became Gran Paradiso Park. There are over 700 kilometres of trails still in use today, many of them the original paths used by the ibex.

The Park is dominated by Gran Paradiso, which towers over 4000 metres above the Valnontey river valley. Nearby lies Cogne, a small town that gives access to several other valleys for both summer alpine hikes and winter skiing.

This presentation will be aired via Zoom Video Conferencing. On the Monday preceding the event, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the weekly e-News.
