🌿 Myxogastria: The secret world of slime molds
🌿Myxogastria: The secret world of slime molds
Richard Winder. past president of Southern Vancouver Island Mycological Society, will tell us about slime molds.
Slime molds aren’t really slime, and they’re certainly not fungi. Learn about where these secretive, curious creatures fit into the empires and kingdoms of life, how they behave, and how we classify the different genera and species. Even more, learn how these ‘social amoebas’ learn and organize, how they help us to explore networks at the grandest scales, and how they tie in to questions about the nature of intelligence and communication. They may not be important drivers of ecological processes, but in the great scheme of things they have their own natural charm and special significance.
This presentation will be aired via Zoom Video Conferencing. On the Monday preceding the event, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the weekly e-News. To join the talk on Thursday, click on that link after 7:15 pm. The talk will begin at 7:30 pm. Non-members are welcome and should Email denis@NatureVancouver.ca well in advance to register for the link.
