Cypress Bird Blitz – 1st annual
Friends of Cypress Provincial Park Society Bird Blitz
Saturday June 7, 2025. Meet 8:15 am – 8:30 am at Black Mountain Lodge.
Join experienced birders who will lead walks/hikes to four areas to record bird species and numbers:
- Yew Lake/Old Growth Loop – 2 km, 20 m elevation gain, max 10 participants
- Bowen Lookout, Howe Sound Crest Loop – 4.5 km, 160 m gain, max 10
- Black Mountain Loop, Cabin Lake – 5.1 km, 360 m gain, max 10
- Hollyburn cross country ski area – approx. 4 km, 100 m gain, max 10
Allow 20 – 25 minutes to drive from Highway 1 to the Black Mountain Lodge in the downhill ski area. Meet in the Brown Bag Room to get maps and sign waivers. June patches of snow and/or ice may remain in some areas, so dress for cooler temperatures (parking lot is at 900 m) and wear proper footwear. Email gailross1@telus.net to register (indicate area you wish to bird in) and to receive updated trail info and route alterations as appropriate. Groups of three or more experienced birders who want to cover additional areas are welcome to sign up as well. The Society hopes this will become an annual event, and looks forward to a good turnout!
