The Elephant in the Room: Conservation Stories and Perspectives

The Elephant in the Room: Conservation Stories and Perspectives

When

28/Nov/2024
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Event Type

Join Peter Ballin on his recent adventures to Kyuquot Sound on Vancouver Island and southern Africa to explore the lives of sea otters, elephants, and rhinoceroses. We will examine their conservation stories and the contexts in which they occur, then address the complex issues surrounding protection measures, as the conservation of a given species always includes much more than the species of concern. We will then reflect upon our personal connections to conservation.

Peter Ballin, a long-time Nature Vancouver member, and the current Chair of the Conservation Committee for BC Nature, will be the speaker for our Special Topics night on November 28, at the Hewett Hall, 949 West 49th Avenue at 7:30 pm. This will be a hybrid/Zoom presentation, but those of you at the Hewett Hall are also welcome for snacks and tea before the event.

This presentation will be in person at Vancouver Unitarians in Hewett Hall and also via Zoom Video Conferencing. On the Monday preceding the event, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the weekly e-News.  The talk will begin at 7:30 pm.  Non-members are welcome and should Email enews@NatureVancouver.ca a few days ahead to register for the link.
