🌿Ferns, Fruits & Toads – Four Lakes Loop Trail (C5)
🌿Ferns, Fruits & Toads – Four Lakes Loop Trail (C5)
Friday Sep 2 at Alice Lake Provincial Park (n. of Squamish)
Carpool: on Wildwood just west of St. David’s Church near Taylor Way & Hwy 1 at 8:15am. Alternate meeting point 9:15am @ day-use parking lot at the S end of Alice Lake.
This easy/moderate hike will focus on 8 or more different fern varieties and the berries & seeds of some plants better known for their spring flowers than their fruit. Because spring was late, we may also catch the annual late-summer migration of juvenile Western Toads from their watery birthplace in Fawn and Edith lakes to the forests where they’ll spend most of their adult lives. Participants will learn to ID some common fern species, but as always our primary goal will to notice & enjoy the diversity in forms, colours and habitats of our chosen subjects, rather than memorizing their names.
Our pace will be leisurely and there is also the chance for a swim in Alice Lake after the hike.
Distance: 8km ; Elevation Gain: 200m
