Description of event: Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver is unique in the Vancouver region for having one of the last low-elevation old-growth stands of coastal rainforest. We will walk the trails through this rugged and beautiful park and observe the features that characterize an old-growth forest and see how work by the Lighthouse Park Preservation Society is reversing the degradation of the native ecosystem by exotic species and high use. We will also look at the smaller native plants of Lighthouse Park and you will hear little-known stories about their complex lives, anatomy and relationships. If you have a hand lens, bring it, as some of the plants’ secrets are beyond the range of the human eye.
