🌿Looking at Bark & Roots – Bowen Island

Sunday March 20  (corrected – originally posted 1 day earlier)  Difficulty rating A5-B6)

The second in a series of ‘themed’ easy to moderate field trips whose goal is to encourage greater awareness of the plants around us.
Early spring, before the trees leaf out is the best time to notice the amazing, but often overlooked variety of bark and roots. This will be an easy, moderately paced hike with lots of short stops to appreciate the diversity of our chosen subjects. We’ll do the 7km forested loop around Killarney Lake (~130m gradual elev. gain) followed by the (optional) short but steeper 2.5km hike to Dorman Point (~120m elev. gain) for its Arbutus trees and beautiful views.
Wear sturdy runners or boots, and dress in layers as March weather is unpredictable. Pack a lunch and maybe a hot drink. Trip goes rain or shine.
Return Ferry costs: $10.70 (>12yrs old), $5.35 (<12yrs), Experience Card discount rates ($6.50 & $3.20) available on this route. Return ferry times: 2:55pm (Lake loop only) or 4:00pm (Dorman Pt. option)
Leaders: Teresa Gagné & Denis Laplante
