Contact trip leaders if you wish to be notified for a rescheduled small, informal hike at a later date.

Date & Time: Monday March 23 Meeting: 8:45am at Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal ticket booth.

Location: Bowen Island

Early spring before the trees leaf out is the best time to notice the amazing but often overlooked shapes and textures of bark, and roots. At this time of year we can also expect flowering Crabapple, Oregon grape and Sweet gale. This will be an easy, moderately paced hike with lots of short stops to appreciate the diversity of our chosen subjects. We’ll catch the 9:05am ferry to Bowen Island and do the 7km forested loop around Killarney Lake (~130m gradual elev. gain) followed by the (optional) short but steeper 2.5km hike to Dorman Point (~120m elev. gain) for its Arbutus trees and beautiful views.

Wear sturdy runners or boots, and dress in layers as March weather is unpredictable.  Pack a lunch and maybe a hot drink.  Trip goes rain or shine.

See 2019 trip report (Feb 20).

Return Ferry costs: $10.45 (>12yrs old),  $5.25 (<12yrs), Experience Card discount rates ($4.10 & $2.10) available on this route.  Return ferry times: 2:55pm (Lake loop only) or 4:00pm (Dorman Pt. option).  Ticket sales cut off 8:55.  Bus from downtown takes about 45 minutes.  NOTE: Ferry Schedule is conceivably subject to change
