Serengeti and Samburu: a safari in East Africa

Serengeti and Samburu: a safari in East Africa

When

07/May/2020
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Event Type

Nature Vancouver member Harvey Dueck will present highlights from his 2019 trip to game parks in Tanzania and Kenya.

The trip included safaris in Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania, and Samburu National Reserve and the Ol Pejeta private reserve in Kenya.

Most of you will be familiar with the Serengeti plains and Ngorongoro crater from nature specials.  The Samburu region in Kenya is home to the “Samburu Special Five”: beisa oryx, gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and the blue-legged Somali ostrich (plus many more widely distributed species).  While the presentation will inevitably focus on mammals, Harvey will try to throw in enough birds to keep the Birder’s night audience interested 🙂

Instructions for online participation.

Many people are using Zoom videoconferencing these days to connect with coworkers family and friends;  it’s not hard.  The March 19 Botany night Zoom presentation went well, and the April 2 Birding had 57 attendees!

  1. Download and install “Zoom Client for Meetings” from Zoom.us/download , where you will also find smartphone and tablet versions. You do not need to register a Zoom account.  If you join the meeting without first installing, you will be prompted to install on the spot, which may leave you feeling rushed.  I  recommend doing a self-test at Zoom.us/test .  You’ll get to test that the Zoom app is able to use your microphone and camera, and try out the meeting buttons.
  2. To join: after 7pm on May 7 click on the link supplied in the Monday email.  You may also need the meeting ID and password (also in that email).  You can join by phone instead at 778-907-2071 .
Email Denis info@NatureVancouver.ca if you need help.
  3. To socialize before 7:30 we encourage you to turn on your microphone and camera; turn them both off at 7:30.  In the  Q&A after the talk, please type in your questions using the “chat” sidebar.
