Lighthouse Park old-growth forest ecology & mushroom tour in Lighthouse Park

Event Type

A combined Lighthouse Park Preservation Society and Nature Vancouver field trip. It will be mushroom season & we will see what the rain has brought us.

Trip leader: David Cook (Biologist).

Meeting time & location: 11:00 a.m. at the upper (southern) parking lot kiosk.
Duration & length of tour: 3 to 4 hours; approximately 2 kms round-trip.
Trail conditions: The Valley Trail is easy to difficult. Some may find poles useful. There are some rocky sections at the southern end. Return is via the Beacon Lane Trail which is an unsurfaced vehicular road.
Getting there: For people travelling by bus, the route is from Park Royal along Marine Drive. Stop at Beacon Lane & walk along Beacon Lane to the parking area at Lighthouse Park. For those driving, there is a parking fee.
Description of the event: We will see an example of pristine old-growth forest ecology along the Valley Trail & maybe even some mushrooms if the rains at this time of year have rewarded us.
Be prepared: Bring water, a snack, an umbrella & non-slip footwear.
Field trip will take place rain or shine.
