Ecology and Conservation of Alpine Birds

High mountain habitats are globally important for biodiversity. At least 12% of bird species worldwide breed at or above treeline, many of which are endemic species or species of conservation concern.  Professor Kathy Martin has spent over three decades studying how alpine songbirds and grouse in western North America cope with their extreme and increasing unreliable environments.  She will provide a global review of alpine bird ecology, status, key threats, knowledge gaps and conservation priorities for their persistence.

Dr. Kathy Martin is a Professor in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at UBC, Vancouver.  Kathy conducts research on population ecology and life history of alpine and forest birds in relation to climate variation and other disturbance factors. Dr. Martin has just published a book on The Ecology and Conservation of Mountain Birds with co-editors Dan Chamberlain and Aleksi Lehikoinen (Cambridge University Press, 2023).

The description of the book she co-authored can be found at this link: Ecology and Conservation of Mountain Birds_Flyer
