Stanley Park walk – Shakespeare Garden & Beaver Lake
Nina Shoroplova will be leading this two-stage walk in preparation for Dacyn Holinda’s November 2023 presentation on conservation at Beaver Lake. Dacyn is Conservation Projects Manager with Stanley Park Ecology Society.
(1) identifying some the trees in the Shakespeare Garden, ones she describes in her book, Legacy of Trees;
(2) walking around Beaver Lake looking for
- (a) the impact of beavers within the lake and on the local ecosystem;
- (b) the presence of various invasive species such as purple loosestrife and the Eurasian water lily;
- (c) the impact of western hemlock looper moths on trees around the lake;
- (d) interesting species such as Labrador tea and round-leaved sundew; and
- (e) ideas of what SPES might do to restore the bog within the lake.
Meet at the Lord Stanley Memorial Monument Friday July 7 at 10:30 a.m., ready for an easy two-hour walk. Terrain will include paths, lawns, and trails. Registration required. Please sign up with Caroline Penn at caroline@naturevancouver.ca.
