🌿 SPRING ASCOMYCETES: Cup Fungi, Morels & more – Paul Kroeger

DESCRIPTION: An introduction to some commonly encountered Cup fungi, Morels and False morels and their kin, the phylum Ascomycota. As well as the delicious morels and truffles, this group includes both beneficial ‘microfungi’ like bread and brewer’s yeasts, and less desirable relatives like sooty mold. It’s aimed at a novice or non-technically oriented audience, with many species of conspicuous or interesting Ascomycetes illustrated and their ecology discussed.

PRESENTER: Paul Kroeger is a founding member and past president of the Vancouver Mycological Society. A self-described citizen scientist, he is regarded as one of the leading authorities on wild mushrooms in BC. He’s contributed to numerous articles and books on mushrooms, and helps the province’s poison control centre identify mushrooms that people have ingested.
He has worked at UBC researching the biochemistry of medicinal mushrooms and is a major contributor to the mycological herbarium collections in UBC’s Beaty Biodiversity Museum.

This presentation will be aired via Zoom Video Conferencing. On the Monday preceding the event, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the weekly e-News.
