Bringing Life Back to a Forest in India: a Conservation Success Story

This presentation features a story from Central India. Human actions led to local extinction of tigers, the iconic species, so bringing a halt to life in the forest. However, with determination and collective efforts, the failures have been reversed with the reintroduction of tigers. The population of tigers increased from 3 to 65 in an astonishing 10 years thus marking one of the fastest large carnivore recovery in the world.

Dr. Ramesh Krishnamurthy is a Scientist with the Wildlife Institute of India and is also an Adjunct Professor with the Faculty of Forestry, UBC. He specializes in Landscape Ecology, Species Recovery Strategies and Integration of Technology in Wildlife Research and Management. He serves on various commissions of IUCN and academic/conservation associations.
