Join Anne Leathem and friends for a walk in an area of old forest. This area was saved from becoming a golf course in the 1990s. Have a look at the website at ogcs.ca .
The tour starts from Parking Lot #5 (Google Map link). Drive up Cypress Bowl Road past the 4th switchback. Parking Lot #5 is the first driveway on your left. We will be watching for you. If you see the KM 11 signpost or the big hydro lines crossing the road, then you’ve gone too far.
• Parking Lot #5 has no sign.
• Parking Lot #5 has no washroom.
• Mobile network coverage in the area is limited to nonexistent.
We will first walk along the Conservancy Crossing Trail where we see a mosaic of mixed age trees mainly hemlock and red cedar. Educational signs describe history and habitat.

You could also download from ogcs.ca/tours a smartphone app “STQRY Guide” (note the Q) offering a self-guided tour named “Old Growth Conservancy” – see the lower section of the page.

After the first walk we will drive up Cypress Bowl Rd to turn left into the next road for the Cypress Resorts Works Yard. From here we will descend on a very rough trail then spread out and enjoy some of the oldest trees.
Dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. Bring a hiking pole if needed. Bring a lunch or snack to enjoy in the forest if you wish. The total time will be about 3 hours. Contact anneleathem07@gmail.com to register; maximum 20 persons.
