Ecology of an Old-Growth Forest in Lighthouse Park

Description of event: This will be an interpretive walk along the trails of Lighthouse Park to look at the ecology of this fragment of temperate old-growth rain forest. It is mushroom season and if we have had rain, expect to see mushrooms. Note that mushroom harvesting is not allowed in District or Provincial parks.
Meeting time and location: 11:00 am at the upper kiosk in the car park of Lighthouse Park, Marine Drive, West Vancouver. For those travelling by bus, catch the 250 Horseshoe Bay bus at Park Royal and alight at the Marine Drive/Beacon Lane stop.
Duration: 3 to 4 hours.
Terrain and elevation gain: Mostly easy walking along trails. However, some sections of trails are rugged and rocky. There may be some steep sections depending on what route we take. Poles may be advisable for some.
Come prepared: It may rain. Bring an umbrella, water and a snack.
Washrooms: Portable toilets are available in the parking lot near the entrance to the park.
Pay parking is now in effect in Lighthouse Park.
West Vancouver Parks parking cost $3.75/hr + 24% metro tax + 5% GST = $4.88/hr.
