Captive Rearing of Sunflower Sea Stars – Dr. Jason Hodin
Dr. Jason Hodin is a research scientist at Friday Harbour Labs on San Juan Island, WA, leading the captive rearing of sunflower sea stars (Pycnopodia helianthoides). This is a partnership project of the University of Washington and the Nature Conservancy in response to seastar wasting syndrome, which nearly wiped out this species, and many others, from Alaska to Baja. The goal is to reintroduce this major predator to its wild environment. Dr. Hodin will be expanding on this topic, the research and the latest developments in this field.
