Congratulations to all those who participated in the sixth annual Big Backyard BioBlitz. You made a big contribution to community science across Canada

A whopping 11,000+ BioBlitzers across the country made this year’s event a wild success! Together, you shared 63,000+ photos and audio recordings, including 6,000+ unique species observations.

In British Columbia, this includes 119 different types of birds and 589 different types of insects.

All that data creates a snapshot of nature in British Columbia and across Canada, giving us a better understanding of what’s thriving, what’s at risk and informing future conservation efforts.

A significant part of these observations has also contributed to our ongoing iNat project for our local area, the Metro Vancouver Regional District where we have now surpassed the 1.5million observations count and is accessible at:
