The Saturday, August 1st New Brighton work party from 8:45 am – 11:30 (which now includes sign in plus tea & treat time at end) will focus on watering native flowers and transplants that we’ve planted over the last few years to promote robust growth and enhancved root systems. We will also continue to focus on clipping and clearing around the native flowers and shrubs.

If we have enough volunteers we’ll also continue pulling Purple Vetch and Morning Glory (bindweed) on the west side of New Brighton Park & the Port strip next to the park, clipping blackberry regrowth and deadheading bullthistle.

The New Brighton Biodiversity Enhancement’s project’s goal is to remove invasive monoculture plant species and replace them with a variety of native perennial herbaceous flowers and shrubs to promote greater biodiversity of insects, other pollinators, birds and animal life.

For more information on the project or to RSVP please email newbrighton@naturevancouver.ca.Your RSVP (ideally by the day before the actual work party) helps us to plan the provision of adequate gloves, tools and treats to share at the end of each 2 hour work party.
