Join us on our next Nature Sketchbook outing at the Capilano Salmon Hatchery!  The Capilano Salmon Hatchery is located in the Capilano River Regional Park on the North Shore. While Coho juveniles can be seen year around, the Coho adults come back to the river to spawn from June – November, so we should be able to see them. The Hatchery Interpretive Centre has a self-guided tour where you can learn about and see fish develop from eggs to the juvenile stage when they are released into the river in spring. It’s a colourful and fascinating process!

The reservoir is a tranquil location backed by mountains. The river flowing through high canyon walls is stunning, and the forest is serene and peaceful. Participants will also have the option to explore nearby trails that travel along both sides of the Capilano River canyon to sketch along various lookout points. There are several fern, moss and berry species tucked in among Western Cedar and Douglas Fir trees. Bird species typically include bald eagles, mergansers, gulls, great blue herons, flycatchers, chickadees and occasionally, American dippers, Western tanagers and cedar waxwings.

All are welcome to this casual sketching session. Bring a pencil or pen; a notepad or sketchbook; and any other favorite, portable art materials if you have them. Dress for the weather. Bring a snack/lunch, hat and water bottle.

To preregister please contact  janet@naturevancouver.ca. Limit 15 participants. Priority to Nature Vancouver members. Details will be sent to participants closer to the date. This event is weather dependent.
