Langdale Falls – Sidewinder Loop (difficulty rating C/D7)
Hike Location: Sunshine Coast near Langdale
Meeting Time & Place: 9:30am at Horseshoe Bay to walk on the 9:50 ferry
Return Ferry Cost: $13.90 (or $10.90 with ‘Experience Card’ discount avail. through leaders)
This moderately challenging trip includes a ferry ride, a high waterfall and pleasant hiking through mountainside forests. The hike will follow the description in the 2014 edition of 109 Walks. Total distance is about 14.6km with a 690m elevation gain, (a bit less if you skip the steep detour down to the falls). The trail has some steep sections so walking sticks are recommended. Parts of our route are also popular with mountain-bikers.
Except for the section near the ferry terminal the trail is mostly forested so should be relatively shady and cool. On our previous trip in spring 2016 we found the relatively rare Snow Bramble Rubus nivalis – maybe it will have fruit or flowers this time.
Dress for the weather including good boots or hiking shoes, and pack lunch and fluids. We plan to catch the 5:55 or 6:45 Ferry home.
Please contact leaders: Teresa Gagné & Denis Laplante by phone 604-437-4453 or email botany@NatureVancouver.ca so we know you are coming. We’ll try to pre-arrange carpooling from Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay.
