LANDSCAPE AS MUSE: STROKES AND MEASUREMENTS

LANDSCAPE AS MUSE: STROKES AND MEASUREMENTS

When

31/May/2026
11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Event Type

In this Field Trip, Landscape As Muse returns for the Summer 2026 to introduce participants to Strokes. This trip will be led by Jean-Michel Besquet and Haley Knudson. We will meet at Stanley Park’s Second Beach Parking Lot.

We will focus on drawing and painting this time, but we will still be open to the written word, dance and music with an Indigenous drum gifted to us per tradition.

We will learn to use strokes, count details, build greyscales and seek palettes to capture foliage, water ripples, vegetation and trees, birds, ground, rocks and geology, sky and weather, as we explore little known facts about our eyes and light.

We will also introduce how to instinctively measure sizes and distances and how to relate those to composition and how to place elements on our drawing surface. While we do not use cameras, this will prove quite useful to photographers, videographers, and journal sketchers.

We will introduce newcomers to meditated focus techniques for mindful awareness of life in Nature and how they can transmute these energies through collaborative expression.

Landscape As Muse is immersive in the contemplation of Nature using media and art as spiritual guides. No special skill or experience is necessary. We assist as needed. We promote a contemplative, expressive and collaborative journey.
