This field trip is now full

Following Dr. Bridgette Clarkson’s MBS zoom presentation on Seaweeds (April 11), Bridgette will again join us for a hands-on exploration of seaweeds on Saturday, April 13. There is a great 0.7 LLW tide at 16:11 (PDT).

This exploration trip will focus entirely on seaweeds. As noted in the NV Blog for the July 4, 2023 field trip last Spring (see NV Blog), the inner harbour location is providing some new and unusual species even during the early part of the Spring season.

We will gather at 14:00 near The Fox’s Den (Spray Park) north of the Vancouver Aquarium. The Spray Park is adjacent to the rampway down to the sandy beach where we will explore the intertidal area eastward to the rocky point of SS Empress of Japan Figurehead.

Trip difficulty rating: A

Plan on a 2.5-3 hour beach walk that goes rain or shine. Please wear appropriate attire for sun (visor and sun screen), wind or rain. Waterproof footwear or booties are necessary given the uneven terrain and slipperiness of the seaweeds and rocks. Bring water and a snack.

This is always a fun day of exploration so expect to be surprised and learn something new!

Please contact your leader, Sheila Byers, to register or if you have any questions. Trip limit is 20 participants.
