SUMMARY:GUIDED PARKS DAY WALK AT YEW LAKE / BOWEN LOOKOUT IN CYPRESS PROVIN
 CIAL PARK - SATURDAY JULY 18\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a 2.5 - 3 hour walk to discover and learn about some
  of the special flora and faunal species found in this popular BC Park.\nT
 he Yew Lake area contains the most easily accessible subalpine old-growth 
 forest and meadows in the Lower Mainland.  Within this area are wetlands\
 , terraced ponds\, a wide range of subalpine shrubs and wildflowers\, old-
 growth forests\, 125 species of birds and a diversity of wildlife species.
   Some species in the park are uncommon and are at the limit of their ran
 ge.\nThe Yew Lake Trail loop is 2 km in length\, with an elevation gain of
  20m.  The trail to Bowen Lookout is another 2 km in length with an eleva
 tion gain of 150 m.  Bowen Lookout provides a panoramic view of Howe Soun
 d and the Sunshine Coast.  Please note that dogs are not allowed within t
 he Yew Lake Trail area due to the sensitive species which are found there.
 \nWe will meet at 9:15 at the main Cypress Creek Lodge.  Walk underneath
  the covered area until you come to Big Bear Sports. Then come inside to s
 ign the waiver form and use the washroom before we head out on the trail a
 t 9:30.\n\n\n[caption id="attachment_24293" align="alignnone" width="300"]
  Cypress Creek Lodge[/caption]\nAllow 30 minutes from the Lions Gate Bridg
 e to get up the mountain. There are no parking fees during the summer seas
 on.\n The Yew Lake Trail / Old-Growth Loop walk will be offered rain or s
 hine.  However\, if it is a rainy day the group can decide whether to inc
 lude the Bowen Lookout Trail or not.\nPlease bring good footwear (no sanda
 ls\, etc) and warm clothing / raincoat in case it is a wet day and a sun h
 at and sunscreen for a sunny day.  Bring water and a snack or light lunch
  to enjoy at the Viewpoint.   Plan to be on the trail for approximately 
 2 ½ - 3 hours.\nTo register\, please email gailross1@telus.net and incl
 ude the number of people that will be with you.  The size of the group wi
 ll be limited to 16.
