GREEN RAINWATER INFRASTRUCTURE
Nature Vancouver Botany Section will be hosting an evening presentation, entitled “Green Rainwater Infrastructure” by Robb Lukes and Julie McManus, of the City of Vancouver’s Engineering Services on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 7:30 p.m.
Sharing examples from all over Vancouver, this presentation will cover the full lifecycle of green rainwater infrastructure (GRI), including the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of rain gardens, bioswales, green roofs, and other GRI tools. The presentation will discuss how these nature-based approaches, when integrated with traditional grey infrastructure (household wastewater), manage urban rainwater runoff to reduce pollution, provide flood control, improve ecosystem health, reduce heat island effects, and align with the city’s climate adaptation and sustainability goals. The presentation will also discuss how we are tackling policy/technical hurdles and involving community in large-scale adoption in Vancouver.
This presentation will take place online via Zoom. On the Monday preceding the event, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the weekly e-News. Non-members are welcome and should Email zoom-request@NatureVancouver.ca between the preceding Friday and Wednesday to register for the link.
