Join Geologist, David Cook, for a Geology Tour of Caulfeild Park. This is a joint trip with Lighthouse Park Preservation Society. The rocks on the shores of Caulfeild Park are the most accessible of the oldest rocks in the Vancouver area having their origin about 400 million years ago. Because of this accessibility and the uniqueness of the geology, geologists consider this site of great value in illustrating some of the processes that took place during the formation of granitic rocks. This value has now been recognized by the recent designation of the park as a Heritage Place & is part of the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative. You will be shown the features of these unusual rocks that make them so unique.

Meet at 10 am near Pilot House (across from 4761 Pilot House Rd, West Vancouver). For people travelling by bus from Park Royal, get off at the Fire Station No. 3 on Marine Drive and it is a short walk along The Dale to Pilot House Road past the church to Pilot House. (SEE MAP)

Pre-register with David at Tour will last about two hours. The park has uneven rocky surface and short distances over rocky bluffs which may be slippery if wet. The elevation gain is negligible. Dress for changeable weather & bring water, a snack & a hat as the area is open to the sky.
