Early Bird Welcome Walk for Beginners at Queen Elizabeth Park
NOTE: Email Neill Vanhinsberg to register: nvanhinsberg@gmail.com
Pre-registration is required and the walk is limited to 15 participants, including the trip co-leaders.
We will be starting just after sunrise (which is at 5:45 – did I mention the 6 AM start?) in hopes of hearing the dawn chorus while the park is quiet and not too many other folks are around.
Jan Lowcock and Neill Vanhinsberg will co-lead the walk that will include a circuit around the park listening in wooded areas, brambles and gardens for spring migrants and residents. The walk will start at 6 AM and last approximately 2 hours. We will have only a couple pairs of binoculars to lend for this walk but we will be listening as much as we can. The emphasis will be on finding and identifying birds by songs and calls from a beginner’s perspective. Questions are encouraged!
This is an easy walk on mostly level ground with a few small hills. Trails are either paved or hard packed. If you have mobility issues, please let us know and we can cater the walk to your needs. Washrooms are available on site. Nature Vancouver members will be given priority. Pay parking is available in the park but street parking is free. There are bus stops close to the park. Directions will be sent with confirmations.
