BIRD CONSERVATION in the FRASER ESTUARY IMPORTANT BIRD AREA
James Casey is with Bird Studies Canada and the Program Manager for the Fraser Estuary Important Bird and Biodiversity Area. He will present an overview of bird conservation, highlighting the lack of a habitat protection mechanism and the need for creative solutions, some of which include:
* Pacific Birds Habitat Joint Venture (website: https://pacificbirds.org/)
* Health, Conservation & Management Stakeholder Group for Boundary Bay Wildlife Management Area
* the proposed Roberts Bank Terminal 2 issue
* recent public engagement on the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plan
He will also discuss the Important Bird Area program and efforts to establish an online campaign to re-establish a framework to set legal objectives for the health and function of the estuary, to maximize its benefits for birds.
