Distance: Approximately 30-50 meters from accessibility parking to the House Ponds, our meeting location.  

Bathrooms: Bathrooms are available next to the parking lot 

Entrance fees: Adults $8, Seniors (65+) $6, Children (2-14) $6 

Type of bird outing: This outing is designed to be intentionally inclusive and accessible for beginner to advanced birdwatchers who have accessibility needs due to a disability or health concern. One of the trip leaders has experienced accessibility challenges and has personally used a walker at this location. 

Description: Join us for a fun, relaxed afternoon of stationary birdwatching at Reifel Sanctuary! Debbi Hlady and Joanna Chin will be leading this Big Sit.  We will do an introduction to show participants how to use and calibrate their binoculars. We will focus on our vision and hearing senses to watch and listen for birds on the water or flying over.

Please bring a foldable chair and if you wish, any art supplies to journal with. At the end of our session, we will engage in citizen science and submit our observations to eBird to contribute to a valuable set of scientific data.

Tea and cookies will be served

Target Birds: Sandhill Crane, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle, Cedar Waxwing, American Goldfinch, Tree Swallow, Barn Swallow, Rufous Hummingbird, Anna’s Hummingbird, Wood Duck, Blue-winged Teal, Cinnamon Teal

Number of Participants: Limited to 15 participants, with up to 5 additional attendants if you need someone to help you participate. Pre-registration required. To register, or to ask questions, please email Joanna Chin at joachin8@gmail.com

Additional Information: 6 pairs of loaner binoculars will be available on a first come first serve basis.
