An in-person presentation by Harry Crosby.  The Botany section offers tea, snacks and socializing at 7pm – people on Zoom will have to provide their own.  Presentation begins at 7:30.

In this beautiful multimedia presentation of beautiful wildflower images, photographer and naturalist Harry Crosby will introduce us to both the exquisite wildflowers of the Swiss alps and the scientific field of Plant Systematics.

Plant systematics deals with the interrelation between plants and their evolutionary history.  How did they evolve to their current forms?  Why do they grow where they do?  And how they are related to similar plants locally and elsewhere in the world ?

For many years Harry has been honing his skills as a plant photographer to create lovely and useful images of plants in their natural habitats, both here in BC and elsewhere. One region he has returned to several times is the Swiss Alps. Made famous by the book Heidi, Swiss mountain wildflowers are renowned for their beauty and diversity.

In addition to his slide presentation, Harry is also bringing a number of custom printed books he has designed to showcase the wildflowers of Southern California, New Zealand, Alaska and 6 volumes of photos of BC flowers.  These will be available for viewing before and after the presentation and one will be featured as a door prize for in-person attendees.

Brief Bio – Harry is a member of Nature Vancouver, a photographer and
naturalist. He is also president of Friends of Ecological Reserves, working
for the preservation of biodiversity.

This presentation will be a hybrid of in-person and online.  On the Monday preceding the event, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the weekly e-News.  The talk will begin at 7:30 pm.  Non-members are welcome and should Email enews@NatureVancouver.ca a few days ahead to register for the link.
