BC Coal Mine Proposed in Critical Caribou Habitat

BC Coal Mine Proposed in Critical Caribou Habitat

Please see an article in The Narwhal from the link below. Written by Jimmy Thomson, it’s thorough but readable, with excellent maps and graphics. This is a follow up from the presentation by Tim Burkhart to Nature Vancouver on May 21. Tim Burkhart is BC Manager, Strategic Engagement and Peace Region, Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, Victoria.

In his presentation Tim told the story of mountain caribou in BC, the stunning landscapes they help protect, and the heroic efforts of First Nations and communities working to pull these iconic animals back from the brink.

Tim has spoken twice to Nature Vancouver and was very grateful to those who wrote letters in support of this project. Unfortunately the government is about to approve a coal mine in this area, which may jeopardize the hopes and work of the Moberly and Saulteau First Nations.
