Baden Powell Trail – Forest Ecology Walk

Baden Powell Trail – Forest Ecology Walk

On July 8, 2018, David Cook, led a group of 16 on a forest ecology walk along the section of the Baden Powell Trail, east from the downhill ski area of Cypress Provincial Park, where there is old-growth coniferous forest. This field trip was organized jointly by Nature Vancouver and Friends of Cypress Provincial Park. David explained the characteristics of a coastal old-growth forest in BC including the plant species and their ecology.

Please see below a photo of a guttating red belt bracket fungus. Guttation is the unwanted moisture exuded from a fungus. The moisture is very weakly acid and is a byproduct of the actively growth of the fruiting body of the fungus. Many green vascular plants also guttate and can often be seen when you overwater house plants. It is not dew.
