Birds & Wildflowers of Horth Hill Park

Birds & Wildflowers of Horth Hill Park

On 31 March 2019, seventeen members and four guests participated in the annual trip to Horth Hill Park, an easy walk from Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. It was a clear and warm spring day. It was a beautiful ferry ride. In Active Pass, we saw about two hundred Bonaparte’s Gulls, no way near the numbers reported only a few days ago. Just outside the Ferry Terminal Parking area we were greeted by a very robust Red-flowering Currant in full bloom,…

Leader: John Chandler – Report: Neill Vanhinsberg On March 30th, 2019, about thirty persons participated in this bird walk. The day was sunny and getting warmer. Some of the participants had seen this walk posted on Nature Vancouver Meetup Group, so it was great to see quite a few new faces. We started with a look at the ducks by the entrance pond after John’s brief chat about the sanctuary and its founder. The group headed off and at the…

Nature Walk along Burnaby Lake and Brunette River

Nature Walk along Burnaby Lake and Brunette River

Nine members and two guests participated in this walk on St. Patrick’s Day. Some of us met at the Sperling SkTrain Station and walked over to Bill Copeland Sports Arena to meet the rest of the group. We started our walk along the North shore of the lake and had to be careful not to block the path of the runners and joggers, some of them dressed in all sorts of green outfits and funky hats. The cold weather in…

Pacific Spirit Park Nature Hike

Pacific Spirit Park Nature Hike

9 March 2019 – Leaders: Bev & Bill Ramey. Trip Report by Tom Lane It was a beautiful crisp morning that greeted us for the beginning of our nature hike in Pacific Spirit Park. Being my first nature walk here in Vancouver I was thrilled to have been invited and was looking forward to delving deeper into the flora and fauna of the park.  Being a bit of a ‘nature novice’, I was delighted to in the very capable hands…

Wouldn’t it be nice to have sheltered pools behind large stumps and trees where we can rest as we fight our way against the current, and some climbable ladders to get around new obstacles up stream to our own spawning areas, some gravel beds in quiet water where we can clear a redd in which to lay our eggs,…
