Brohm Lake Wildflowers and Views 2019-06-07 – Trip Report

Brohm Lake Wildflowers and Views 2019-06-07 – Trip Report

On Friday June 7th, ten NV members and two guests spent a delightful 8 hours botanising during an 11 km hike around the Brohm Lake Interpretive Forest.  Our route included a mix of steep climbs (Powerline Ridge, Tantalus Viewpoint, and Cheakamus Loop trails) and gentler strolls through beautiful mixed conifer-deciduous forest around the lake. Bird Studies Canada and Nature Vancouver have sent a letter to Metro Vancouver Regional District expressing concerns with this multiyear gap for bird habitat. A PDF of the letter is available HERE.

Round trip for the exploration was close to 5 km; an indication of the very low Spring tide at 0.5 m elevation. It was a cool, breezy day but luckily no rain.  We found most of the “usual suspects” that inhabit the sandy mudflats, including…

Vanier Park Cottonwood Forest Area

Vancouver Park Board seeks public input Here’s an opportunity to comment on the proposed plan for the Vanier Park forest area, located near the Museum of Vancouver, just northwest of the Burrard Street bridge, between the Coast Guard station and the Vancouver Music Academy. This area has the Cottonwood Forest, youth bike BMX jumps and a pair of nesting eagles. The plan proposes: a bike circuit dirt track for children, a new eagle nest pole to provide a potential nesting site to…
