November 2023 Work Parties Despite weather forecasts of continuous rain for the weekend of November 4th and 5th we had excellent New Brighton work parties under a mixture of glorious sun and some cloud and no rain for both work days. This means we have had 71 New Brighton work parties, most through the winter months without any significant precipitation. We’ve worked hard to remove invasive species and enhance biodiversity through the planting of native perennials, roses and shrubs. Newcomers Ross and Roz worked together up on the hillock, planting native roses digging out mega-holes for the two-gallon pot sized shrubs. Report by Nigel Peck This year Nature Vancouver (NV) became involved in an exciting new conservation project at New Brighton Park in Vancouver’s northeast corner, just near the Iron Workers’ Second Narrows Bridge. In the area just to the west of the off-leash dog area, landfill dug from the Shoreline Habitat Restoration Project was deposited in 2016 and 2017 to create a hillock.
